M-1 Challenge 23: Guram vs Grishin Results

by Jesse Zavala
Yeah, that’s right. In the busiest weekend of MMA action ever, not only was there a UFC, Strikeforce, and Bellator card, but an M-1 card as well. Here’s a little recap of the action, although if you’re really hardcore about your mixed-martial arts and want to impress your friends just watch the darn thing here. Here’s the rundown for you lazies, though.
Lightweight (155 lbs.)
Nikolai Kaushansky (1-0) def. Vusal Bayramov (1-3)
Nikolai looked calm and clinched the second Vusal came in to range, seconds later a Sambo trip had Vusal …

The Return of Bellator

by Jesse Zavala
Bellator Fighting Chamionships will make its return to the world come March 5th with what is set to be the biggest and most promising season in the promotion’s short four year career. After a slew of problems plagued the Fox Sports broadcasts in seasons two and three, CEO Bjorn Rebney secured a tremendous partnership with pop culture giant MTV2 to air its events live every Saturday night for the next three years. Bellator seems intent on going hard or going home, but one look at the upcoming schedule …

Strikeforce Diaz vs. Cyborg – Predictions

Nick Diaz vs. Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos (for welterweight title)
Jesse
I cannot understand how mostly everyone has written off Evangelista like some 4-2 MMA rookie. He can match Nick Diaz strength for strength with his Chute Boxe Muay Thai and Cleber Luciano black belt in BJJ. I could see this fight easily end in a TKO for Cyborg in the 2nd round.
Sean
This fight could end up looking a lot like Diaz-Gomi, with Diaz peppering Cyborg with his rapid pawing strikes, while Santos with definitely push forward with heavier strikes. The only difference …

Melendez, Fancy-Pants, and KJ remind us Strikeforce has a lightweight division

By Jesse Zavala
KJ Noons and Lyle “Fancy Pants” Beerbohm are two of the top talents in Strikeforce’s lightweight division, the same division that’s been awful quiet ever since Josh Thomson and JZ Cavalcante fought to a razor-thin decision this past October. In case you were worried, don’t be; champion Gilbert Melendez and the rest of the 155 pounders will not be left out of what promises to be the biggest year in the promotion’s history. A couple of interesting match-ups have recently been announced and there even seems to …

No seriously, Aoki was knocked out by a cross-dresser!

By Jesse Zavala
One thing that has gotten lost in the midst of Grand Prix announcements, featherweight and lightweight title fights, and New Years drunkenness is the public humiliation betrothed to Shinya Aoki at the hands of Yuichiro Nagashima at Dynamite!! 2010.
Yuichiro “Jienotsu” Nagashima is the K-1 World MAX 2010 -70kg Japan Tournament winner and a hilarious cosplayer with no shame. Fans have dubbed him the “Otaku kickboxer” due to ring entrances that consist of Jienotsu dressed as a female anime character, an entourage of lovely female cosplayers, and the …
